This project took 3-4 classes. Students were given two coloring book pages of a chosen character. They broke apart this character and spent the first class playing around with composition. On the 2nd day students were introduced to limited color palettes, or as we called it “trademark colors”. Construction paper and tissue paper were added to the composition (trademark colors only). On the final day students added colored pencil. We particularly focused on completing the negative space. Students either gridded their negative space or extended the lines of their coloring book character to divide up their negative space. Then paper and colored pencil were applied.
Can you figure out who each character originally was?
