First graders just finished up these amazing sesame street collages inspired by the work of Thom Pastrano. This was so great at reinforcing their knowledge of different kinds of lines and shapes while strengthening their cutting skills. First we started with a striped background. Each student cut strips of paper using the colors their character needed for a patterned part of the body. Then we discussed what kind of line we would draw for each characters head. Bumpy lines for big bird, zig zag for oscar the grouch, curved lines for Ernie and so on. Then we made eyes and added special details for each character like eyebrows or eye lids. This project was a big hit! Can’t take credit for this idea though! The idea came from this amazing art teacher’s blog: shine bright zamorano . Thanks!
