Mandalas created with 1st and 2nd grade after school club. This was a spontaneous project. After watching a video of how sand mandalas are made and looking at several other examples of mandalas students were asked to practice making mandalas on their own. After working for 10 minutes we then made giant mandalas as a table group.
While students worked on their large scale pieces we also worked on a sand mandala on one of the free tables. At first I was going to have students use their hands to sprinkle sand, but that would have been a disaster, so I pulled out my trusty squeeze bottles. I cut the tips off to give them a larger opening so the sand could come out easier, and filled them up with the help of a funnel. It worked like a charm!
